The Woodstock Walkers
We believe and trust in God, who loves us all.
We believe and trust in Jesus, who showed us what love means.
We believe and trust in the Holy Spirit, who helps us to love in return.
Drive along the main road through Woodstock and, just opposite the King's Arms Hotel, you will discover Woodstock Methodist Church. With a membership of 65 and a Junior Church numbering about 15, it is a warm, welcoming church with a vibrant worshipping community.
As well as our own activities, we are committed to supporting groups and events in the wider community and across the world. We are a Fairtrade church and our current church project is to support two charities, Helen & Douglas House and All We Can (formerly Methodist Relief & Development). Information on all our activities can be found on the pages of this website.
Sadly, as a result of the current corona-virus situation, and following advice from The Methodist Church Central Office, we are having to close the Church buildings to visitors and worshippers for the foreseeable future. However, we still hope to provide people with help and support in these difficult times. Should you need to contact our Minister, Paul, or the Church Stewards for any reason, or particularly in these difficult times wish to be added to our Prayer List, then please use the information given in the Contact us section.
During the period that the Church is closed and we are no longer in a position to host services, a member of our Circuit Ministry Team will be recording Bible readings, prayers and reflections and these will be found in the Recent Sermons and Reflections section.
We thank everyone for their understanding and support.
We are led in our worship by our full-time Minister, Paul Carter, and his family. Paul is relatively new to his role in the clergy, having transitioned from a long career as a lecturer in Phonetics and Linguistics at various universities. We support him in thoughts, prayers and actions as he finds his way in his ministry. He is a very gifted preacher and musician who combines deep theological knowledge with a wry sense of Yorkshire humour – often built around his other passion for… trains!
In Methodist tradition, as well as having Paul as our Minister, many of our services are led by a wonderful group of lay-preachers and retired Ministers from the Oxford Circuit. This means that there is constant variety in our worship styles and hymn-singing. We have an All-Age Holy Communion Service which is open to all every 4 - 6 weeks.
For those people who are unable to make it to our services for any reason, and for those people who were in Church, but would like to study a sermon given again in more detail, in the Comments Section of the website, we include the texts from a selection of recent sermons. This includes new Minister, Paul's recent sermons, which helps us to get to know him better. We include the details of the set texts from the Lectionary, around which the sermon was based, so that you can study these for yourselves before reading the sermon and benefitting from the preacher's special insights.
In addition to the sermon collection, we include a selection of video reflections and other study aids to help people on their personal spiritual journeys.
Various sections of the website are dedicated to events being staged in and around the Church and in our local community. We also have a News Section which gives information particularly about the different charities that we support through regular giving campaigns and other fund-raising efforts.
We also delighted to be able to offer our facilities for hire by individuals and community groups. If you need space for an event, club, meeting or some special get-together, whether regularly or on a one-off basis, please do see what we have to offer by checking out our bookings page.
Please do take the time to look around. And please, should you ever be passing through Woodstock, do drop in and see us. You will be made most welcome.
I am of such little faith,
I see your ways,
but I do not walk them.
I understand your love,
but I do not love the same.
Help me to keep faith with you.
And through all the issues of this day,
be my guide.
