Part of our discipleship is to reach out to others and share God's love and support in any way we can. One of the ways we do this is through our church project, a cause we adopt for usually two years and for which we both raise money and raise awareness of the issues involved. In recent years, these have included:
- a feeding programme in South Africa;
- Woodstock Youth Club;
- the church in Haiti following the devastating earthquake there in 2010, for which we raised £2800 through our donations for coffee and through special fund-raising events.
At the beginning of June 2012, we adopted three new charities, this time more local ones, all of whom were working with issues of homelessness in Oxford. Over the following two years, we raised £1000 each for Gatehouse, The Porch and Howard House.
At the beginning of June 2014, we changed our charities once more and are currently supporting two overseas charities. One is ZANE works with people in Zimbabwe and the other is one of All We Can's partners in India. READ help some of the poorest people learn to read.
As well as our church project we continue to support a variety of other charities and causes in all sorts of ways, whether through house-to-house collections, special events (eg. the Christmas Fayre or our annual Quiz Night), collecting boxes, promoting Fairtrade products, food donations or envelopes on a Sunday morning. This year these charities have included Action for Children, Cancer Research, Christian Aid, Methodist Relief and Development Fund, Methodist Homes, the North Oxfordshire Community Foodbank, JMA and the Methodist World Mission Fund.
