Worship

Sunday mornings

Worship is at the heart of all that we do. Our regular Sunday worship is at 10.30am, though occasionally there are services at other times. As is traditional in Methodism, our services are led by a variety of preachers, both lay and ordained, mostly from the Oxford Circuit, though occasionally from further afield. The preachers for the current quarter are listed below. We aim to offer a variety of worship experiences from the traditional to the innovative, from quiet communions to celebratory chaos. The worship area has chairs to allow flexibility of use and we now have a full range of audio-visual facilities which are used regularly to enhance our worship.

The first part of our Sunday morning worship is always intended for all ages. The children usually leave for their own activities after about twenty minutes. About once every six weeks, the whole service will be a time of all age worship. About once a month, the morning service will include Holy Communion. In addition, we have an early morning communion at 8.30am on the first Sunday of the month. This tends to be a quiet affair, with time for space and reflection.

If you are joining us to lead worship, helpful information for visiting preachers can be found here.

Friday prayers

Worship is not just for Sundays, though, and we have a regular time of prayer on Friday mornings at 9.30am for about half an hour. This is an ecumenical group which started after 9/11 and has proved very popular, with a regular congregation of 15 - 20. Different members of the group take the lead each week and invite us to reflect on a wide range of themes. Prayers are said for the wider world and also for those from the church and local community, as requested on the cards that have been pinned to our prayer board by members or by visitors to the church. On the third Friday of the month we share communion together. After prayers every week we go across the road to Harriet's Tea Shop for coffee and conversation.

Occasional services

We are always very happy to share in weddings, baptisms or funerals. We can also help with wedding blessings, the renewal of vows, or, indeed, mark any special occasion or important milestone, whether happy or sad, in the context of prayer and worship. If you would like us to help you in this way, please contact our minister, Jonathan.
